I am writing to express my strong opposition to the confirmation of Mike Huckabee as ambassador to Israel, and I am urging you to vote no if you haven’t already been planning to. While I understand that his confirmation is very likely going to happen due to the Republicans being in the majority, I at least don’t want to have the shame of knowing that my senators voted to confirm someone who does not believe that Palestinians exist. This erasure of the Palestinian identity is dangerous and it has lead to the dehumanization and erasure of the Palestinian people that we are seeing now. Voting to confirm Mike Huckabee would only continue the normalization of this erasure and dehumanization. Even if his confirmation can’t be stopped, I still urge you to vote no.
