The Trump administration has escalated its decades-long embargo on Cuba by completely cutting off (https://archive.is/KOSYg) the island’s access to oil, and it has already used military force in the process, seizing ships (https://archive.is/qt0ol) that have supplied the country. Trump has also threatened a “takeover” of Cuba (https://archive.is/3xgey), leaving the possibility of military intervention very much on the table. The United Nations has warned of potential humanitarian “collapse” (https://news.un.org/en/story/2026/02/1166895) if Cuba’s fuel needs go unmet. Blackouts now last up to 30 hours. Schools are closed, hospitals are canceling surgeries, and essential medicines are running dangerously low. Under the Constitution, only Congress has the power to authorize military action, yet the Trump administration has acted without congressional approval. Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), and Adam Schiff (D-CA) have introduced S.J.Res. 124 (https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-joint-resolution/124), and Representative Nydia Velázquez (NY-7) has introduced H.J.Res. 153 (https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-joint-resolution/153), war powers resolutions that would prohibit the use of U.S. armed forces to enforce a blockade or quarantine of Cuba without congressional authorization. Demand your legislators cosponsor and vote YES on S.J.Res. 124 or H.J.Res. 153 to stop unauthorized military action against Cuba.
