Don’t Rob Federal Retirees to Fund Billionaire Tax Breaks
I am writing to demand that you oppose the elimination of the FERS annuity supplement in the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” This is not fiscal policy — it is theft.
The FERS supplement was promised as part of the federal retirement system. It provides critical income for workers who retire before age 62, bridging the gap until they can claim Social Security — a benefit they have earned through decades of service.
Eliminating it now, especially for workers nearing retirement age who planned their entire careers around it, is nothing short of a bait-and-switch. It is government-sanctioned robbery of the very people who upheld our laws, protected our data, delivered our mail, processed our benefits, and kept this country functioning through wars, shutdowns, pandemics, and political chaos.
Let’s be clear: this is not about saving money — it’s about gutting the civil service to fund massive tax cuts for corporations and billionaires. Public servants are being sacrificed for political theater.
If Congress passes this provision, you will be stealing thousands of dollars per year from retirees who upheld their end of the bargain. It’s immoral, unjust, and economically senseless.
I also oppose the rest of this assault on the workforce, including the:
• “At-will vs civil service” hiring scheme that punishes new hires for seeking job protections;
• New filing fees for employees trying to appeal mistreatment through the MSPB.
But let me be clear: cutting the FERS annuity supplement is the most egregious violation of trust in this bill. Do not allow this to happen.
I expect you to stand up for the people who’ve served this country with loyalty and integrity. Stripping retirement income from middle-class federal workers is a line that must not be crossed.
We are watching. And we will not forget.
