Uphold democracy - resist authoritarianism through civil disobedience

To: Sen. Riccelli, Gov. Ferguson, Rep. Hill, Rep. Ormsby

From: A constituent in Spokane, WA

February 20, 2025

America stands at a precipice, facing the existential threat of authoritarian rule. All elected officials have a profound moral and civic duty to lead the resistance against the disturbing anti-democratic forces eroding our cherished liberties and human rights. From the White House's relentless attacks on free and fair elections, to the emboldening of hate groups trafficking in racism, to the flagrant disregard for constitutional checks and balances - the crisis demands an unprecedented response. Passive acceptance is tantamount to complicity. I implore you to answer the call of conscience, to demonstrate true patriotism through bold, sustained civil disobedience and opposition by any lawful means necessary. Set the courageous example for your constituents to follow. Rally a unified front of all Americans of good conscience. Before it is too late, take decisive action to uphold our nation's sacred democratic principles and ideals of equality, justice, and human dignity for all.
