I am writing to you as a constituent to urge the immediate acceleration and passage of the North Carolina Momnibus Act. This request comes at a critical moment as the federal Department of Health and Human Services has recently canceled millions of dollars in grants dedicated to infant mortality prevention and postpartum care. These federal cuts leave our state more vulnerable than ever and place a dangerous burden on our local healthcare systems.
The North Carolina Momnibus Act is no longer just a hopeful proposal but a necessary safeguard for our citizens. By investing in community based care and addressing the systemic disparities that lead to higher maternal mortality rates, our state can fill the void left by federal abandonment. We cannot afford to wait while mothers and infants in our own communities face preventable risks.
Investment in prenatal and neonatal care improves outcomes for every family in North Carolina regardless of their background. When we protect the health of mothers and newborns, we are investing in the long term economic and social stability of our entire state. It is a fundamental responsibility of our government to ensure that the most vulnerable among us have access to the care required to survive and thrive.
I ask that you prioritize the NC Momnibus Act in the current session to ensure that North Carolina leads the way in maternal health. Our families deserve a state government that acts decisively to protect the lives of mothers and babies. I look forward to your response regarding your commitment to this essential legislation.
