Iowans Demand You Do Not Support Reynolds’s Education Agenda

This is not just about policy—it’s about the future of our children, our communities, and our democracy. I’m writing to condemn in the strongest possible terms the ongoing assault you have helped launch against Iowa’s public education system. Let’s start with the blatant gutting of public education through the implementation of Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) with NO INCOME CAP that is devastating our public school budget. Every child, regardless of ZIP code and religion, deserves access to a high-quality education. You are robbing the many to serve the few. The Board of Education is trustworthy and valuable, meant to provide checks, balances, and expert oversight. You handed power to politically aligned bureaucrats more concerned with pleasing donors and ideology than serving students. This isn’t governance. It’s sabotage. DO NOT SUPPORT REYNOLDS’S AGENDA. Worse still is the enthusiastic support for unconstitutional censorship masquerading as “parental rights.” Let’s call this what it really is: state control. Banning books, intimidating teachers, and pushing vague “obscenity” laws are tactics straight out of authoritarian regimes—not the American tradition of academic freedom and open inquiry. We’ve seen this before. From Mussolini to McCarthy, state control of curricula has always been a red flag for fascism. When governments decide what history is acceptable, what identities are legitimate, and what truths are tolerable, they’re not educating children—they’re indoctrinating them. And you are now part of that legacy. Iowa’s education legislation is not just misguided—it is malicious. And the damage you are doing will mar your legacy unless you take a stance against it. The people of Iowa see through this. Teachers see it. Parents see it. Students are living it. You can still choose a different path: fund public schools fully and equitably, protect free thought in the classroom, and stop hijacking education so that Reynolds can get enough brownie points with Trump to score an ambassadorship. Until then, understand this: We will not forget. We will not back down. And we will hold you accountable.
