Support SB 265: Protect Consumers Through Responsible Hemp Regulation

To: Rep. Cairns, Sen. Sanderson, Gov. Stein

From: A constituent in Morehead City, NC

July 10

Support SB 265: Protect Consumers Through Responsible Hemp Regulation I urge you to support SB 265 and establish a strong, science-based regulatory framework for hemp-derived products in North Carolina. Our state has an opportunity to protect consumers while supporting North Carolina farmers, manufacturers, retailers, and responsible businesses. Rather than banning compliant hemp products, SB 265 would create meaningful safeguards by requiring product testing, accurate labeling, licensing, child-resistant packaging, age restrictions, and enforcement against businesses that violate the law. Consumers deserve confidence that hemp products are accurately labeled, free from harmful contaminants, and sold responsibly. Parents deserve assurance that these products are kept out of the hands of minors through enforceable age restrictions. Legitimate businesses deserve clear, consistent rules that reward compliance and hold bad actors accountable. A regulated marketplace is more effective than prohibition. Clear standards help law enforcement distinguish legal products from illegal ones, reduce unsafe products entering the market, and support an important agricultural industry that provides jobs and economic opportunity across North Carolina. Please support SB 265 and continue working toward a balanced approach that prioritizes public safety, consumer protection, responsible business practices, and the long-term success of North Carolina’s hemp industry.
