An Open Letter

To: Rep. Downing, Sen. Daines, Sen. Sheehy

From: A constituent in Helena, MT

April 6

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding President Trump’s recent public communications, particularly those issued over the Easter holiday. The use of inflammatory, divisive, and inappropriate language from the Office of the President is not merely a matter of personal style; it is a significant departure from the dignity and decorum historically expected of our nation’s highest office. The President’s words have a unique power to shape national sentiment and influence global perception. When that power is used to attack fellow citizens and foster hostility during a time of cultural and religious significance, it demeans the office and erodes the social fabric of our country. Our executive leadership should strive to be a source of stability and unity, rather than a catalyst for vitriol. As my representative in Washington, I urge you to take a public stand for higher standards of civil discourse. It is essential that members of Congress, regardless of party affiliation, reinforce the importance of mutual respect and professionalism in our political landscape. We must ensure that the presidency remains an institution that inspires respect, both at home and abroad. I ask that you address this trend of escalating rhetoric and advocate for a return to the measured, principled communication that our democracy requires to function effectively. Thank you for your time and for your service to our district. I look forward to hearing your position on this critical issue.
