Support Legislation to Establish the 25th Amendment Commission

To: Sen. Rosen, Sen. Cortez Masto, Rep. Titus

April 18

I need you to support Rep. Jamie Raskin's legislation establishing a Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office under Section 4 of the 25th Amendment. Congress has failed to create this body for over 50 years despite having clear constitutional authority to do so. The proposed commission would consist of 17 members selected in a scrupulously bipartisan manner: retired statespersons from the Executive Branch, physicians, and psychiatrists chosen equally by Democratic and Republican leadership. No current elected officials or federal employees could serve, eliminating conflicts of interest. This body would work with the Vice President to address presidential incapacity when needed. With 535 Members of Congress but only one President, this commission is essential for continuity of government. Recent concerns about presidential fitness make this even more urgent. The 25th Amendment gave Congress this responsibility in 1967, and it's past time to fulfill it. Pass this legislation now.
