Keep school boards focused on educational excellence, not partisanship.

The introduction of partisan politics into school board elections is a concerning development that threatens the integrity of public education. School boards should remain non-partisan entities focused solely on providing quality education to all students, regardless of political affiliation. Injecting partisan agendas risks creating divisiveness and undermining the core mission of ensuring every child receives an equitable and well-rounded educational experience. While transparency is important, listing party affiliations on ballots could discourage qualified independent candidates from running and narrow the pool of potential school board members. Many highly capable individuals may not align with any political party yet possess invaluable skills and perspectives to offer. Partisan elections could also deter educators and others in the field from seeking these roles due to restrictions on political activities. Public education should unite communities around shared values of nurturing young minds and preparing future generations for success. Partisan politics frequently breed polarization and prioritize party interests over student needs. We must safeguard school boards as non-partisan bodies dedicated to educational excellence. I urge you to reject measures that could politicize these crucial roles and instead promote policies that strengthen public education for all children.
