Concern Regarding Senator Graham's Recent Comments on Gaza Flotilla
To: Sen. Graham
From: A constituent in Greenville, SC
June 2
As a constituent from South Carolina. I’m calling to express my deep concern about a recent tweet from Senator Lindsey Graham, where he said, 'Hope Greta and her friends can swim,' in response to an article titled 'Greta Thunberg sets sail with Gaza flotilla that aims to break Israel's naval blockade.'
As an elected official, Senator Graham should be held to the highest standards of conduct and responsibility. His words seem to suggest a wish for harm to come to those participating in the flotilla. Does this mean he expects the flotilla to be targeted, or perhaps he’s implying that the flotilla will fail in the sea? Either interpretation is deeply troubling.
South Carolinians expect leaders who act with dignity, respect, and integrity. Wishing for something bad to happen to people, especially those standing up for a cause, is not representative of the values we hold here in South Carolina. We deserve better.
I urge you to reconsider such harmful rhetoric and to instead prioritize peace, diplomacy, and respect for human life.
Thank you. Clear As a constituent from South Carolina.
