Marriage Equality Must Stand — Reject This Petition
To: Justices Court
From: A constituent in Austin, TX
October 23, 2025
I am writing as a concerned citizen who believes deeply in equality, freedom, and the right of every person to marry the one they love. I respectfully urge the Court to dismiss the petition seeking to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges and to uphold the constitutional right to marriage equality nationwide.
The Obergefell decision affirmed one of the most fundamental liberties guaranteed by the Constitution: the right to marry and to have that marriage recognized equally under the law. To revisit or reverse that ruling would not only undermine established constitutional protections but also destabilize the lives of countless couples and families who have built their futures around that promise of equality.
As a citizen of Texas, I have witnessed how marriage equality has strengthened communities by allowing couples to live openly, securely, and with the same legal rights as any other family. Taking away those rights would cause deep harm and create unnecessary division. It would also send a message that some Americans are less deserving of love, commitment, and recognition, which stands against the principles of liberty and justice for all.
I ask the Court to protect the dignity and humanity of every American by rejecting this attempt to roll back progress. Please keep Obergefell v. Hodges intact and affirm that marriage equality remains a fundamental right protected by the Constitution.
Thank you for your time and for your continued service to our nation.
