I am writing to urge you to take immediate and decisive action to strengthen our support for Ukraine in its ongoing struggle against Russian aggression. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's recent interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" has highlighted the critical need for increased pressure on Russia and enhanced military aid to Ukraine.
President Zelenskyy's comparison of Vladimir Putin to "something similar but more strong than Hamas" underscores the severity of the threat Russia poses not only to Ukraine but to global stability. The scale of this war and the size of Russia's army demand a more robust response from the United States and our allies.
Specifically, I ask that you advocate for the delivery of long-range U.S. Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. These advanced weapons systems could provide a crucial strategic advantage to Ukrainian forces, helping to counter Russia's increased airstrikes and weak position on the battlefield.
It's important to note that Ukraine is not losing this war, despite the challenges they face. President Zelenskyy's willingness to meet with Putin face-to-face at the upcoming summit in Budapest demonstrates Ukraine's commitment to diplomatic solutions. However, we must ensure that any peace talks occur without the threat of missiles or drones looming over negotiations.
The suggestion that Ukraine should cede territory to end the war is unacceptable and goes against the principles of sovereignty and international law. Instead, we must intensify our efforts to support Ukraine's territorial integrity and its right to self-determination.
I urge you to push for increased military aid, stronger sanctions against Russia, and unwavering diplomatic support for Ukraine. The United States has a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in ending this conflict and restoring peace in Europe. By taking a firmer stance against Russian aggression, we can help bring this war to a just conclusion and reaffirm our commitment to democracy and freedom worldwide.
