ICE Reform

To: Sen. Lee, Rep. Maloy, Sen. Curtis

From: A verified voter in Woods Cross, UT

January 24

I am a constituent from Utah writing to express my profound alarm and opposition to your continued support for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) without demanding substantive, systemic reform. I urge you to publicly condemn cruel enforcement practices and refuse to approve any funding for ICE that does not include strict conditions to end policies that harm our community and violate human rights. We are literally watching them commit government sanctioned murder in American cities. The blood is now on your hands. As your constituent, I have watched with growing horror as ICE operations instill fear in our neighborhoods. Reports of large-scale raids and aggressive enforcement tactics make our communities less safe by discouraging people from seeking medical care, reporting crimes, or taking children to school. These actions do not reflect the values of our district or our country. My opposition is based on three critical points: 1. Community Safety is Undermined: Policing experts agree that when immigrants fear contact with any government agency, public safety for everyone suffers. ICE's current practices break down the trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. 2. Widespread Demand for Accountability: There is a broad, non-partisan consensus for change. In fact, over 500 civil and human rights organizations have formally called on Congress to refuse funding for ICE without reforms, citing a pattern of abuse and a lack of accountability. 3. Humanitarian Harm: Current policies, including the expansion of detention and the targeting of sensitive locations, cause profound human suffering and separate families. We need policies focused on dignity and due process, not fear and cruelty. Therefore, I specifically call on you to: · Publicly support legislation that conditions any future ICE funding on the implementation of major reforms to stop mass raids and abusive practices. · Exercise vigorous congressional oversight over ICE operations and demand transparency. · Co-sponsor and advocate for legislation that creates a fair, humane, and orderly immigration system. A growing majority of Americans support compassionate and fair immigration policies. I expect you, as my representative, to reflect our community's values by taking immediate action to rein in ICE. I will be closely watching your votes and public statements on this critical issue.
