Protect vital services - prioritize constituents over special interests

To: Sen. Torres, Rep. Corry, Rep. Dufault, Gov. Ferguson

From: A verified voter in Yakima, WA

March 8

It is clear that proposed cuts to Medicaid and other essential social programs would be devastating for countless individuals and families across our communities. These vital services provide a lifeline for seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, children, and low-income residents, allowing them to access affordable healthcare, medicine, and other basic necessities. Slashing these programs would increase poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, and strain on local hospitals and providers. This would cause immense hardship and suffering, particularly for the most vulnerable among us. We implore our representatives to prioritize the well-being of their constituents over partisan politics. Families like mine rely on these essential benefits to make ends meet and maintain our health and livelihoods. Cutting these programs would be a profound injustice, ripping away hard-earned support systems that keep our communities functioning. Our representatives must act as voices for the people, not as mouthpieces for special interests or extreme ideologies. It is incumbent upon our elected officials to explain their decisions transparently and be accountable to those they serve. Avoiding town halls and constituent input is unacceptable. We deserve representatives who will fight to protect the programs that uplift our families and communities, not dismantle them. The human cost of these proposed cuts is too high. Our representatives must reconsider this destructive course of action and instead work to strengthen the social safety net that allows all Americans to live with dignity.
