I am calling on you to speak out against President Trump's actions on Monday in freezing all federal aid. This is blatantly illegal; the Executive Branch can't unilaterally decide to ignore laws that were passed by Congress, especially when it comes to financial aid. Trump gave orders that violate the Constitution. It will produce chaos and devastation across the nation and the world. We need you to act, immediately and strongly, against this lawless dictatorial act. This illegal order to freeze federal funds allocated by Congress is nothing less than a coup attempt, a seizure of Congress's power of the purse. For the survival of democracy and the prevention of a dictatorship, we need every member of Congress not in Trump's pocket to stand up against this and take back its powers. This is an emergency. Members of Congress must take action, and clarify how they will stop the freeze, ensure that the millions who are directly impacted by financial aid will not be harmed and stop the slide into autocracy.
