I write you today to urge your opposition to the SAVE Act. As written, the SAVE Act will effectively disenfranchise a small but statistically meaningful sample of younger voters, minority voters, and married women. It does this by design because the SAVE Act is not a election security bill, it is an election manipulation bill. I would encourage Republicans and Democrats who support real election security to come together across the aisle in support of a National ID program. We have needed a real national ID in this country for many decades as evidenced by the widespread usage of social security numbers as unique identifiers, despite warnings against precisely that in the original enabling legislation from the 1930s. A national ID program that is free at point of service to the user could serve as both an effective way of ensuring that voters are who they say they are without imposing an undue burden on any given demographic. Paired with an effect of digital identity. This would solve a lot of problems in a lot of different places across American society and culture. But perhaps most importantly right now, it would show who's interest in the SAVE Act is actually focused on election security rather than driven by a desire to tilt the playing field towards their own partisan advantage.
