I am writing as a constituent from the Mat-Su Valley to express my concern about the growing warnings that Southcentral Alaska may face natural gas shortages this winter. If those predictions become reality, families could be forced to pay even higher utility bills while also facing uncertainty about the reliability of their heat and electricity during the coldest months of the year. For many Alaskans, especially working families, seniors, and those on fixed incomes, utility costs are already a significant burden. Heating our homes is not optional, it is a basic necessity for survival. We need our elected leaders to act now rather than waiting for a crisis. I urge you to support practical, bipartisan solutions that increase the reliability of our energy supply while helping keep utility costs affordable. We need legislation that encourages long-term energy stability so Southcentral Alaska is never again placed in this position. Reliable and affordable energy is essential for our families, schools, hospitals, and local businesses. I ask that you make this issue an immediate priority and work with your colleagues to pass sensible legislation that addresses both the short-term risks this winter and the long-term need for a secure, affordable energy supply.
