I am writing to you to express my concern about the future of our libraries and the access by our communities to the resources that libraries provide.
From a very young age, libraries and librarians - from my school library to the public library - allowed me to engage curiosity, to learn about the world, and to explore thoughts and ideas I would not otherwise had access to. As a parent, the library has been a community partner to support the healthy development of my children through thoughtful programming that encourages health, community and early literacy. Librarians have been an impactful and supportive resource to me throughout my life.
Equally important is the freedom for all people to access library resources without interference or threats from the government. I urge you to refuse to cut library funding or to normalize or engage in book bans in Arizona, or anywhere. Finally, please protect the rights, employment, and pensions of the people who work in all types of libraries.
Libraries are critical institutions that promote and extend the rights and prosperity of the people that Arizona libraries serve.
Thank you.
