Support for the Right to Wear a Health Mask Bill, AB 1326. I am writing to express my strong support for the proposed legislation establishing the right of individuals to wear a health mask in public places throughout California. This bill affirms a simple but essential principle: that individuals have the right to protect their own health and the health of those around them. Whether during times of elevated risk from communicable diseases, wildfire smoke, or other air quality hazards, wearing a mask has become a crucial and effective tool in safeguarding public and individual health. Codifying this right ensures that Californians cannot be unfairly denied access to public spaces, services, or opportunities simply for choosing to wear a mask. It reinforces inclusivity and protects vulnerable populations-such as the immunocompromised, elderly, or those with chronic illnesses-who may rely on masks as part of their daily health practices. The bill thoughtfully balances individual rights with reasonable exceptions for identification, safety, occupational, and medical requirements. These clarifications help ensure that the legislation enhances public health protections without interfering with necessary operational protocols. In light of ongoing public health challenges and growing environmental threats, this bill is a timely and necessary step forward. I urge you to support the passage of this important legislation and stand with Californians who choose to prioritize their health and the wellbeing of their communities. Thank you for your time and leadership.
