Request for Oversight Action on Misuse of Government Funds in Partisan Messaging
To: Rep. Larsen
From: A constituent in Edmonds, WA
October 3, 2025
I write as a constituent deeply concerned by the reporting in NPR (Sept. 30, 2025) on how government resources may have been used for partisan messaging—a potential violation of the Hatch Act and misuse of taxpayer funds. (NPR article: “Government Shutdown, Trump, ethics, Hatch Act”)
Because the House Oversight Committee has primary responsibility for investigating misuse of federal funds and ethics violations, I urge you to:
1. Support or introduce a House resolution asking the Oversight Committee to open an immediate investigation into these allegations, with subpoena authority as needed.
2. Push for a floor debate or special order motion to force a public accounting from the implicated agencies.
3. Issue a formal request or letter (jointly with other members) demanding documentation of federal spending, messaging contracts, and internal communications from agencies under scrutiny.
4. Use your position and platform to demand transparency from the executive branch and affirm that no political agenda should dictate use of federal funds.
Even though you are not a member of Oversight, your voice matters in pressuring that committee and leadership to act. Please respond with whether you will lead or support these steps and a timeline for doing so.
Thank you for representing Washington’s 2nd District and for holding government accountable.
