Focus on governing not impeachment
To: Rep. Raskin
From: A constituent in Rockville, MD
November 4
In this morning’s The Banner, the Politics feed began with “As Democrats take the House, Raskin contemplates a third Trump impeachment.”
I am a retired special education teacher from Montgomery County, Maryland. As this morning dawns, I am feeling hopeful about being an American for the first time in many months. Please use your political power to uplift this nation; use your position to set an example for the country. I want to share my opinion with you. Take impeachment of the current President off your agenda. Take the wind from his sails, take the limelight away from him. In the film, The Princess Bride, Westley tells Prince Humperdinck, “…I leave you in anguish, wallowing in freakish misery forever." Let that be his fate. Ignored, unimportant, trivial to the next two years of American recovery. Instead of impeachment, work to restore the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to its former glory; to remove politics from funding the Smithsonian so it continues educating its visitors about our illustrious and remorseful past. There is much for our government to do for its people. Make improving our lives the focus. Choose to act on our behalf so that it makes us proud to go abroad and answer the question, “Where are you from?” with a resoundingly joyful “The USA!”
