I am writing to urge you to respect the will of Utah voters and end gerrymandering practices that undermine our democratic representation. The Utah Supreme Court recently rejected an appeal to overturn a congressional map that includes a Democratic-leaning district, but this legal outcome does not address the fundamental problem: Utah citizens voted for redistricting reform through Proposition 4, and that mandate must be honored. When voters approved Proposition 4, they sent a clear message that they want fair, transparent redistricting processes free from partisan manipulation. Gerrymandering dilutes the power of individual votes and creates districts that serve political interests rather than communities. This practice damages public trust in our democratic institutions and prevents meaningful representation for all Utahns, regardless of party affiliation. The current congressional map may have survived legal challenge, but surviving a court case is not the same as serving constituents fairly. Districts should be drawn to reflect actual communities and give voters genuine choice in their representation. When maps are engineered to predetermine outcomes, elections become formalities rather than true expressions of the people's will. I am asking you to take concrete action to implement the redistricting reforms that Utah voters approved. This means supporting legislation that establishes an independent redistricting commission with real authority, creates transparent criteria for drawing district boundaries, and ensures that community input shapes the process rather than partisan strategy. Utah voters have already spoken on this issue. They deserve representatives who will honor their decision rather than find ways to circumvent it. Fair districts benefit everyone by ensuring that elected officials must actually compete for votes and remain accountable to their constituents. I urge you to stand with Utah voters and champion redistricting reform that ends gerrymandering in our state.
