WE THE PEOPLE… demand an immediate cease and desist against ICE! Most importantly to this citizen- the proposed detention center in Roxbury, NJ.
There is inadequate infrastructure available to support it. The facility would house 1,500 detainees and 1,000 staff in a space currently zoned for industrial use with only FOUR toilets and inadequate sewage/water access.
There is zero communication regarding intent. DHS and ICE bypassed federal laws requiring consultation with state and local officials regarding environmental and community impacts.
The financial waste is ridiculous! ICE has already spent $129 million on the site; the injunction seeks to prevent further waste of taxpayer money on a project that is likely to be ruled unlawful. Imagine what that kind of money could have done for the immediate communities surrounding the facility! Perhaps it could have/SHOULD have been used to revamp the infrastructure that is already failing? The infrastructure that ICE expects to somehow support the additional impact of 2500 human beings!?!
Get ICE out of NJ. Out of the eastern seaboard. Out of the UNITED STATES in general! ICE OUT!
