Pres.Trump usurped the State of California's control of its own militia, the California Army National Guard, to put down protests related to aggressive ICE raids. The governor of California did not request help.
This administration has encouraged excessive force by ICE, creating an atmosphere of anger and fear. Protests have been labeled insurrections, and the president has again overstepped his authority in mobilizing Guard units.
This is the beginning of martial law. A small group is taking control of everything, ignoring precedents, procedure, and the rule of law.
"My country, right or wrong. When right, to be kept right; when wrong, to be set right."
My country is a democracy, responsive to its people and aligned with its own Constitution. It has a balanced government where no one person or branch has all the power. My country has compassion and a sense of its place as part of an interconnected world.
Someone has to set it right. Someone has to stop the violations of law, the withdrawal of rights like free speech and due process, the disrupting of checks and balances. The courts are trying to check the overreach. Congress needs to join them. Don't let it fall to the military to make a stand, or to the citizens to exercise their right to bear arms in defense against their own government's lawlessness.
