Demand Immediate Swearing-in of Rep. Grijalva and Vote Against Speaker Johnson

To: Rep. Maloy

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

October 25

The ongoing refusal to swear in Representative Adelita Grijalva is an egregious violation of democratic principles and must be addressed immediately. As a constituent deeply concerned about fair representation, I urge you to take decisive action. Rep. Grijalva won the special election for Arizona's 7th Congressional District on September 23, yet over a month later, our district remains without representation due to Speaker Mike Johnson's refusal to administer the oath of office. This decision has left our community without access to crucial constituent services and a voice in Congress during a government shutdown. The situation is particularly dire given our district's position at the frontlines of immigration issues, including debates surrounding border policies. We need our elected representative to advocate for our interests, especially in these challenging times. Speaker Johnson's actions are inconsistent and politically motivated. He claims to follow a precedent set by Nancy Pelosi, yet he seated two Florida Republicans during a recess earlier this year. This clear double standard undermines the integrity of our democratic institutions. Furthermore, Rep. Grijalva's presence in Congress is critical for advancing important initiatives. She would be the 218th member to support a discharge petition for releasing Jeffrey Epstein files, a matter of significant public interest. I strongly urge you to: 1. Demand the immediate swearing-in of Rep. Adelita Grijalva. 2. Vote against Speaker Johnson's leadership, given his blatant disregard for fair representation. 3. Support legal efforts, such as the lawsuit filed by Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, to resolve this issue. The Constitution guarantees our right to representation. Every day that passes without Rep. Grijalva in office is a day our voices are silenced in the halls of Congress. This is not a partisan issue, but a matter of upholding the fundamental principles of our democracy. Act now to restore our district's representation and hold those responsible for this unacceptable situation accountable. Our community's needs and the integrity of our democratic process hang in the balance.
