I am writing to respectfully urge you to vote NO on HB328. While I understand and support the importance of protecting public health and ensuring responsible regulation, an outright ban on THC products would have significant unintended consequences for North Carolina's economy and the many small businesses that operate responsibly within the current legal framework. Across our state, locally owned retailers, farmers, manufacturers, distributors, and other small businesses have invested time, money, and jobs into this growing industry. Many have complied with existing laws, paid taxes, and built their livelihoods around products that consumers legally choose to purchase. HB328 would put many of these businesses at risk, forcing closures, layoffs, and lost investment while reducing tax revenue for the state. A ban is also unlikely to eliminate consumer demand. Instead, it may drive purchases to unregulated or out-of-state markets, making it more difficult to ensure product safety and quality. Thoughtful regulation, clear labeling, age restrictions, product testing, and enforcement against bad actors are more effective approaches than prohibiting an entire industry. North Carolina has an opportunity to support both public safety and economic growth by creating a balanced regulatory framework rather than imposing a blanket ban. I encourage you to stand with North Carolina's entrepreneurs, employees, and consumers by voting NO on HB328 and pursuing sensible regulations that protect the public without unnecessarily harming local businesses.
