Vote No on HR 9495

To: Sen. Tillis, Sen. Budd, Rep. Foushee

From: A verified voter in Durham, NC

November 19

The right to dissent is a cornerstone of our democracy and must be protected. I urge you to vote no on H.R. 9495, which would give the executive branch unchecked power to dismantle nonprofit organizations accused of providing "material support" to terrorist groups without due process. This vague definition could be abused to target groups based on their advocacy and political views rather than credible national security threats. The government already has a troubling history of discriminatory investigations and prosecutions under material support laws, disproportionately targeting Muslims, charities, and civil society groups. Passing H.R. 9495 would enable further erosion of Constitutional rights and chill free speech. Instead of keeping us safer, this bill risks silencing dissenting voices and undermining democratic values. I implore you to stand firm against any legislation that infringes on cherished First Amendment protections. Vote no on H.R. 9495 to safeguard civil liberties and the right to dissent from government overreach. Our ability to voice disagreement without fear of retaliation is essential for a healthy, inclusive democracy.
