Senator Merkley- Please Step Up and Lead the Senate!
To: Sen. Merkley
From: A constituent in Lincoln City, OR
November 4
Dear Senator Merkley,
I am writing to urge you to consider stepping forward to become the next Senate Democratic Leader.
As Democrats prepare for leadership elections, I want to make clear that I have little confidence in Chuck Schumer's ability to provide the leadership we need. We have an incredible amount of talent in our caucus, and we need a leader who knows how to fight, communicate effectively, inspire our base, and hold those in power accountable.
I am tired of hearing about working across the aisle and avoiding "revenge" before there is even a serious discussion about accountability. This is not the time to accommodate those who threaten our democracy. We need leaders who will stand up and fight for our values.
We also have newly elected senators bringing fresh talent, new ideas, energy, and perspectives to Washington. Their voices deserve to be heard. We should bring together the experience of our current senators and the enthusiasm and abilities of our new members to build a stronger Democratic leadership team.
Senator Merkley, I believe you have the integrity, courage, and conviction to help lead that change. Please consider stepping up and becoming our next Senate Democratic Leader.
We have a deep and talented bench. Let's put that talent to work rather than settle for the status quo. The voters who stood behind Democrats deserve strong leadership and a party willing to fight for them.
Thank you for your service and for considering this request.
Sincerely,
