Dismantle ICE/No Funding
To: Sen. Hassan, Sen. Shaheen
From: A constituent in Concord, NH
February 3
As your constituent, I implore you to defund ICE and eventually abolish it. What we are witnessing in cities across the United States is unconscionable. The actions carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security have escalated into widespread harm that is deeply traumatic for many communities. These practices are not new. They have been funded and expanded under multiple administrations for years. For Black communities, Indigenous peoples, and immigrant communities, this violence echoes a long history of state-sanctioned brutality, displacement, and racialized policing. Systemic racism and discriminatory policy have now evolved into a violent enforcement apparatus with devastating consequences. This is a moral crisis. And it demands your immediate attention and action. Your constituents are counting on you to do the right thing. IN REMEMBRANCE ICE has killed 9 people so far in 2026. Their lives mattered. Their names must be remembered: • Alex Pretti • Renee Good • Keith Porter • Heber Sanchaz Dominguez • Victor Manuel Diaz • Parady La • Luis Beltran Yanez-Cruz • Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres • Geraldo Lunas Campos They all deserve remembrance. They all deserve justice. You must take these actions immediately: • Vote NO on any new funding for ICE and CBP in this week’s funding bills until real, enforceable safeguards are in place. • Require independent, transparent investigations into all ICE and CBP abuses, with full cooperation in local and federal investigations, including the shootings of Ms. Renee Good and Mr. Alex Pretti. • End street-level immigration policing and dragnet operations, limiting enforcement strictly to individualized cases involving dangerous individuals convicted of serious crimes. • Ban all discriminatory profiling based on race, religion, appearance, accent, workplace, or perceived immigration status. • Reinstate community-protective safeguards, including policies consistent with the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act (S. 455 / H.R. 1061). • Ensure real accountability, not internal reviews designed to shield agencies from consequences. Anything less is a failure of Congress’s responsibility to protect civil liberties, public safety, and the rule of law. Don’t forget: • Oppose the Homeland Security Appropriations Act • Reject further ICE funding, including the $75 billion allocated in last year’s Republican budget reconciliation bill • Take immediate steps to dismantle and abolish ICE Silence and weak negotiations enable violence. Action saves lives. Do the right thing. History demands it.
