I am writing to you today as a constituent deeply concerned about the proposed ICE detention facility in Roxbury. While legislative opposition is a necessary first step, the urgency of this situation requires you to take a more active role in the grassroots movement currently growing in Morris County.
The community is already speaking—over 500 residents turned out in the cold on February 16th to say "no" to this facility. I am asking you to do more than just sign a letter, cast a vote, or make a web portal. Specifically, I urge you to:
1. Pressure the Governor: Use your office to publicly and privately push Governor Sherrill to withhold infrastructure and utility permits for the Roxbury site, work with the Attorney General’s office to develop litigation strategies proactively, and coordinate all state agencies to oppose the facility.
2. Join the Grassroots: Stand with us at community rallies, attend town halls in Roxbury, and help organize local opposition. We need our representatives visible and active on the ground, not just in Trenton.
3. Mobilize Resources: Provide your constituents with the resources needed to document and legally challenge any preliminary work being done at the warehouse site in Roxbury and at any warehouse in New Jersey.
We need leaders who will fight alongside the community to ensure that no warehouse in our district is ever used to house human beings. I hope I can count on your active participation in the efforts to stop this facility.
