Celebrate S.R. 724 celebrating teachers

To: Sen. Warner, Rep. Vindman, Sen. Kaine

From: A constituent in Woodbridge, VA

May 22

I am writing to urge you to celebrate, elevate and amplify S.R. 724, a resolution recognizing the importance of teachers in supporting our democratic way of life, submitted by Maine Senator Susan Collins and colleagues. This resolution explicitly states the importance of education and knowledge as the foundations of the future strength of our country, acknowledging how teachers and staff earn and deserve the respect of their students and communities for their selfless dedication to community service and the future of our children. It urges all Americans to raise awareness of the endless contributions teachers make to our way of life, and to promote greater respect and understanding for the teaching profession. Teachers deserve our respect and support because they do far more than teach academic subjects. They act as mentors, counselors, and role models, shaping the minds of future generations while navigating immense professional pressures. The work they do provides immense value to our communities. Educators are the cornerstone of society, responsible for guiding children through their formative years and helping them find their passions. They foster analytical and critical thinking, which helps next generations make informed, difficult decisions on their own. Students—especially those facing uncertainty or trauma—feel stronger connections and thrive when they have supportive teachers who care. Teaching is a highly demanding profession, with educators frequently dedicating their own time and energy to ensure no student fails. Recognizing and supporting educators as the professionals they are benefits the entire community, leading to stronger local economies and a more prosperous society. To explore how educational policies impact these professionals or to discover ways to get involved, visit the Department of Education to learn more about current initiatives. Especially as society continues to rapidly evolve, fueled by scientific and technological advancements, the education profession is more vital than ever in moving America forward. I ask you to demonstrate these sentiments in your work in congress, continuing to support educators in the decisions you make for funding, policy and future planning for public education. Thank you.
