An Open Letter
To: Rep. Calvert
From: A constituent in Palm Springs, CA
February 26
Congressman Calvert's decision to back the GOP budget resolution jeopardizes vital support for 138,200 of his constituents who rely on Medicaid and over 30,000 who use SNAP benefits. Cutting up to $880 billion from Medicaid and $230 billion from SNAP to give tax breaks to the wealthy is an unconscionable betrayal of his most vulnerable constituents, including the elderly and disabled. As their elected representative, Congressman Calvert has a responsibility to fight for their access to health care and nutrition instead of catering to special interests. This budget threatens to strip away the critical safety net that allows his constituents to maintain their health and well-being. Protecting billionaires at the expense of hardworking families is reprehensible. Congressman Calvert must reverse course and stand up for those who elected him by vehemently opposing any measure that cuts Medicaid, SNAP, or other programs millions depend on to survive.
