Reject the $70 Billion Immigration Bill and Its Unaccountable Slush Fund

To: Sen. Curtis, Sen. Lee, Rep. Maloy

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

June 5

Vote no on the $70 billion immigration enforcement bill. This legislation passed the Senate 52-47 with no guardrails on a $1.8 billion settlement fund that critics across both parties have called a slush fund — one that could be used to pay Jan. 6 rioters who assaulted law enforcement. An amendment to prohibit exactly that failed to reach 60 votes. You should be ashamed to send this to the President's desk. The process alone is disqualifying. This bill bypassed regular appropriations through budget reconciliation, cutting off the kind of deliberate oversight that spending of this scale demands. Even Sen. Lisa Murkowski voted against it for that reason. The Trump administration's own acting Attorney General testified the settlement fund wouldn't be used, while Trump himself said he wasn't ready to abandon it. That contradiction is not reassurance — it's a warning. Block this bill in the House.
