Prioritize economic stability, defuse trade tensions through negotiation

To: Rep. Hinson, Sen. Ernst, Sen. Grassley

From: A constituent in Waterloo, IA

April 7

The tariffs imposed by the current administration have caused significant economic disruption and market volatility. While addressing trade imbalances is important, imposing sweeping tariffs risks sparking a trade war that could deeply damage the U.S. and global economy. President Trump's tone-deaf comment about getting economic "ammunition" through trade wars demonstrates a worrying ignorance of how deeply damaging such policies could be. I urge you to reconsider this aggressive tariff strategy and instead pursue a more measured approach through targeted negotiations. Unilateral tariff hikes invite retaliation, hurting American workers, farmers, and businesses. There are better ways to level the playing field that don't risk sending the economy into a recession that would harm millions of Americans. I ask that you prioritize economic stability and growth for all rather than escalating disputes in a way that could backfire severely. Please act swiftly to defuse trade tensions before irreparable harm is done.
