An Open Letter

To: Gov. Hobbs

From: A constituent in Tucson, AZ

May 24

This proposed bill requiring "reasonable accommodations" for students regarding shower facilities appears to be a discriminatory bathroom bill targeting transgender and gender non-conforming students. Such legislation denies access to public facilities based on gender identity rather than biological sex at birth. Major medical associations and anti-violence groups have opposed these measures, which increase risks of harassment and violence against both transgender and cisgender individuals without providing any actual safety benefits. We urge reconsideration of this bill that would infringe on the rights, dignity and well-being of Arizona's students. All children deserve to feel safe and respected at school regardless of gender identity or expression.
