Reject misguided budget prioritizing privilege over public good

The following letter urges representatives not to pass the proposed congressional budget resolution H.Con.Res. 14 for fiscal year 2025: This proposed budget resolution sets concerning priorities that are misaligned with the needs of the American people and our nation's future. The $2 trillion in mandatory spending cuts over the next decade would deeply undermine vital social safety net programs and services that millions rely on. Instead of draconian cuts, we should be investing more in education, healthcare, infrastructure, clean energy transition, and economic opportunities for working families. Furthermore, the $4.5 trillion increase to the statutory debt limit with no accompanying plan for deficit reduction is fiscally reckless and burdens future generations with unsustainable debt levels. This budget proposes massive tax cuts that disproportionately benefit corporations and the wealthy while doing little for middle-class Americans. At a time when income inequality is at historic highs, this approach doubles down on an economic system rigged against working people. The deregulation agenda puts corporate profits over public protections for clean air, water, worker rights and consumer safety. Rather than embracing damaging austerity measures, Congress should pursue policies that grow the economy from the bottom up and make life more affordable for everyday Americans. I urge you to reject this misguided budget resolution that favors the privileged few over the interests of the majority. A balanced, equitable approach that responsibly funds national priorities and supports the broadest prosperity is needed.
