Please detail what an impeachable offense is

To: Rep. Baumgartner

From: A constituent in Waitsburg, WA

October 2, 2025

On September 19th you responded to me about impeachment. I too agree that impeachments are shameful things and should not be used lightly. That said, both you and I grew up when Clinton was impeached for lying about an affair. Apparently lying under Trump has become a virtue, as no Republican seems to care about his lies and even create their own (see Johnson saying Trump was an FBI Informant" to cover his. Leagalese says that an impeachable offense is: The foundation for impeachment is in Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution. This clause specifies that a president can be removed from office “on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” This language provides two explicit offenses and a third, more complex category that has been the subject of historical debate. Treason is defined in Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution and involves levying war against the United States or adhering to its enemies by giving them aid and comfort. Bribery is addressed by federal law, such as 18 U.S.C. § 201, and involves offering or accepting something of value to influence an official act. These two offenses represent assaults on the nation’s security and governance. Can you please explain why the continued developments with Qatar (accepting an airplane, creating Trump deals with them, and signing an executive order that creates a defense alliance with them) is not impeachable? Can you please explain to me how weaponizing the justice department to attack Comey, and Cook - among others, is not impeachable? Can you not explain how telling all of our highest ranking military leaders who are in charge of combat operations and trianing across the world, that they will be using American cities as training grounds - Is not impeachable? Can you explain how sending 20Mil to Argentina - a country that seems to have a dictator and seems to have been the recipient of investments made by Trump's allies who have lost money - during a governemtn shut down where the US Gov says it has no money to pay it's own employees - Can you please explain to me how this is not an impeachable offense because none of these actions seem to be for the good of the country. It seems to me that there are a tragically mounting number of impeachable offenses to choose from. Please do your part to save us from this despot.
