An Open Letter
To: Rep. Wittman
From: A constituent in North Chesterfield, VA
May 23
I am writing to urge you to oppose the legislation introduced by U.S. Representative John McGuire (VA-05) and co sponsored by Representative Wesley Hunt (TX-38) and Representative Matt Van Epps (TN-07) - The Federal Accountability for Felony Obstruction (FAFO) Act. Additionally, I am requesting that you highlight that anyone who votes for this proposed bill should also publicly reject the pardoning of individuals who participated in the Jan. 6th attack on the Capitol.
Under current U.S. law, “domestic terrorism” includes activities “dangerous to human life” that are intended to influence Americans and our government through intimidation, coercion, and mass destruction.
As Representative Hunt stated, “The United States cannot tolerate organized violence masquerading as activism. Individuals who attack law enforcement, endanger public safety, and sow fear and destruction in our communities must be treated with the seriousness their actions warrant. Congress has a duty to call this behavior exactly what it is: domestic terrorism.”
I urge you to vote against this legislation and commit publicly to upholding the existing laws of our country and our Constitution. If you want to support the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our Capitol and communities safe, use your voice to call this what it is – political theater.
