Demand Immediate Action to Stop the Illegal Dismantling of USAID

To: Sen. Kim, Rep. Pallone, Sen. Booker

From: A verified voter in Metuchen, NJ

February 5

I am writing to demand immediate and decisive action to stop the Trump administration’s egregious abuse of power in dismantling the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and allowing Elon Musk’s unauthorized interference in government systems. The actions taken by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and others in the administration are illegal, dangerous, and a direct attack on both our national security and global leadership. USAID is a cornerstone of American diplomacy and humanitarian aid, operating on a fraction of the federal budget while saving lives, stabilizing regions, and advancing our national interests abroad. Now, in a lawless and authoritarian move, high-ranking officials within the agency have been removed, its website taken offline, and control handed over to Pete Marocco—a man with a history of political weaponization and alleged involvement in the January 6th insurrection. This is a direct and unlawful power grab that cannot be allowed to stand. To make matters worse, the administration has placed all direct USAID hires on leave, endangering both staff and ongoing humanitarian missions. The reckless elimination of critical programs will cause irreparable harm to global stability and undermine U.S. leadership worldwide. Let me be absolutely clear: The executive branch does NOT have the legal authority to dismantle USAID, and Congress must step in immediately. I urge you to: Block every single Trump cabinet nominee until USAID is fully reinstated and operational. Launch an immediate investigation into Elon Musk’s role in interfering with classified government systems. Introduce and support legislation preventing any executive attempt to unilaterally absorb or dismantle USAID or similar agencies without congressional approval. Publicly denounce this authoritarian overreach and demand accountability for those responsible. Enough is enough. Trump and his enablers are acting with total disregard for the law, and Congress must use every tool at its disposal to stop this blatant abuse of power. The world is watching, and so are the American people. I expect to see you take swift and public action on this matter. Please respond with what steps you plan to take to protect USAID, government integrity, and the rule of law.
