Please vote NO on KOSA (Kids Online Safety Act)

To: Rep. Omar

From: A constituent in Minneapolis, MN

July 30, 2024

I'm urging you to please vote NO on KOSA - the Kids Online Safety Act. The bill's sponsors claim it will protect children by placing a duty of care on online platforms to prevent anything that could be "harmful". Sounds innocuous, but the revised KOSA bill allows the FTC to determine what's "harmful", and FTC leadership is made by presidential appointment. Lina Khan will probably proceed fairly -- she's great! -- but when the next Trump is in the Oval Office, he WILL appoint someone who WILL abuse that enforcement power. The Republicans have never stopped making plans to do that. Senator Blackburn, who wrote KOSA, said she introduced KOSA "to protect minor children from the transgender in our society." The Heritage Foundation proudly said they'll apply pressure through KOSA to block information about abortion & LGBTQ+ issues. KOSA claims to protect children, but it will absolutely cause harm to kids, teens, and young adults -- especially, but not limited to, LGBTQ+ kids and teens. And it won't stop there. (They never stop there.) Please vote "NO" on KOSA.
