Senator Alsobrooks,
I am a Maryland constituent, a disabled Navy veteran, and the mother of an active-duty sailor. I am demanding a public explanation for your failure to vote on September 24, 2026, on H.Con.Res. 89, the resolution directing an end to U.S. hostilities against Iran.
The resolution failed 49–50. You were the only senator recorded as not voting. Why were you absent, and how would you have voted?
For military families like mine, this is not an abstract political debate. Our sons and daughters bear the consequences of this unauthorized war: death, injury, trauma, prolonged deployments, and lives permanently changed. We need our elected representatives to exercise Congress’s constitutional authority and protect the people sent into harm’s way.
An unexplained absence on a vote this consequential is unacceptable. If circumstances prevented your attendance, explain that publicly without disclosing private family or medical details. Maryland constituents deserve accountability.
Please provide a substantive written response and publish an explanation for the public. State what concrete steps you will take to end unauthorized hostilities, restrict funding for their continuation while protecting service members, and demand accountability from this administration.
Our children’s lives deserve more than statements of concern. Do your job: represent us, exercise oversight, and act with the urgency this crisis demands.
