Vote Against The Iran War

To: Rep. Dunn, Sen. Scott, Sen. Moody

From: A verified voter in Tallahassee, FL

May 2

I am writing as your constituent to express my strong opposition to U.S. military involvement in Iran and any Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) related to this conflict. This war was not what the American people voted for. President Trump campaigned explicitly on ending foreign entanglements and putting America First; not on starting a new war in the Middle East. Congress was not properly consulted or advised before military action was taken, which is a direct violation of the constitutional authority that belongs to this body, not the executive branch alone. The consequences are already being felt at home. Gas prices have surged as a direct result of this conflict, hitting working Americans in the wallet every time they fill up their tanks. This is not an abstract foreign policy debate it has real economic consequences for my family and every family in this district. I also urge you to reconsider our unconditional support for Israel. If Israel chooses to pursue conflict with Iran, that is Israel's sovereign decision to make. The United States should not be obligated to fight Israel's wars, nor should we continue sending weapons and foreign aid that draw us deeper into a conflict the American people do not support. The United States should adopt a position of neutrality. Finally, I ask that you advocate for redeploying U.S. troops currently stationed in Europe and the Middle East to the southern border, where they can make a direct, tangible difference for American families. The real national security crisis is at our own border the flow of illegal immigration and the drug cartels responsible for the fentanyl epidemic killing tens of thousands of Americans every year. Our military strength should be directed there. I urge you to: 1. Vote NO on any AUMF authorizing military force against Iran. 2. Support legislation withdrawing U.S. military assets from the Middle East and Europe. 3. End unconditional weapons transfers and foreign aid to Israel. 4. Support the redeployment of troops to the southern border to address illegal immigration and dismantle drug cartel networks. Congressional authority over war and peace exists for exactly this reason to ensure no single president can drag this country into an unpopular, unauthorized war. Please exercise that authority. I am watching your vote on this matter closely, and so are many of your constituents.
