Vote no on Steve Pearce's confirmation as BLM director. A man who co-wrote a letter calling for the disposal of federal lands, co-sponsored bills to gut the Antiquities Act, and fought to shrink the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument has no business overseeing 245 million acres of public land.
Pearce's attempt to walk back his record doesn't hold up. Calling a letter urging federal land sell-offs an act of "sheer frustration" is not a disavowal — it's damage control. His congressional tenure shows a consistent pattern of prioritizing extraction over conservation, and his financial ties to Permian Basin oil and gas leases make clear where his loyalties lie. A 90-day divestment promise doesn't erase that conflict.
The Wilderness Society is right: Pearce is unfit for this role unless he fully disavows his prior positions on public lands — and he hasn't. Block this nomination.
