Please reconsider your Trump endorsement
To: Gov. Cox
From: A constituent in Lehi, UT
July 19, 2024
I understand you have changed your stance and decided to endorse former President Trump for re-election, despite previously denouncing his divisive rhetoric and concerning policy positions. His speech last night at the RNC did indeed double down on xenophobic and polarizing rhetoric that seems antithetical to unifying the country. While the assassination attempt was deeply disturbing, it does not negate his inflammatory words and troubling record in office. Giving him the endorsement now would be seen as pandering rather than a principled decision. I urge you to reconsider providing that endorsement, as doing so would go against your stated values of bringing people together and disagreeing better. Trump's behavior last night suggests he is not the candidate to heal divides, but rather one who will continue driving wedges between Americans. Please stand firm in withholding your support from a president who seems unwilling to change his divisive ways. The nation is watching how leaders respond to this moment.
