I’m writing to urge the Congressman to vote no on any measure that increases funding for ice. Ideally, there must be zero funding for ICE. They are not operating in support of immigration control, safety, or protection. Raiding schools, boarding school buses, attacking teenagers, tear-gassing trick-or-treating children (back in the fall in the Chicago suburbs), and abducting a 5 year old little boy and trafficking him across state lines(!) are all actions of an out-of-control goon squad that needs to be defunded before they do more damage. Ice isn’t going after the “worst of the worst,” they’re attacking children. Since the only thing the administration has fought to protect are pedophiles, this should be horrifying for all of us. In addition, the disgusting memo that came out this week that says these armed squads can come into any home in violation of the 4th Amendment and democratic ideals. In addition to being extremely dangerous for the goon squads themselves, this underlines how illegal, unconstitutional, and out of control they’re acting. And it was an official memo! Not a rogue division. 250 years ago we rose up to fight these kinds of horrors. Funding them now goes against everything this country is supposed to stand for.
