NO TO ICE

To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. McClain Delaney

From: A verified voter in Frostburg, MD

February 9

I demand an immediate end to all federal funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the closure of every immigration detention center without delay. ICE detention is inhumane. People are jailed without due process, families are separated, medical neglect is routine, and deaths in custody continue to occur. These facilities operate with minimal oversight, profit from human suffering, and violate basic human rights standards that the United States claims to uphold. Public funds should never support systems that rely on cruelty, fear, and confinement. Immigration is a civil matter, not a criminal one. Detention is unnecessary, harmful, and ineffective. Community based alternatives are proven to be more humane, more cost effective, and more consistent with constitutional principles. Congress has the power to act. You control appropriations. Choose to stop funding ICE. Choose to close detention centers. Choose policies grounded in dignity, accountability, and the rule of law. I expect my representatives to act decisively and publicly. I will be watching how you vote, and I will remember those choices.
