As we see the righteous push back and protest against the gestapo-like tactics of ICE in California and elsewhere, I am reaching out to you, the elected officials here in Washington, to demand that we, together, do not let our state’s law enforcement resources be commandeered by the federal government in violation of law. Trump’s illegal deployment of state reservists and his threat to send in the federal military will not be limited to California. These fascist actions will soon be coming to Washington, and other blue states, I have no doubt. Please get out in front of this to protect Washington state citizens, not from so-called “antifa” (which is largely a fictional invention of the right) but from the violent lawless mob that is ICE and the Trump administration. Do not allow our local and state law enforcement to be a tool of the far right and a harm to the most vulnerable amongst us. Peaceful non-violent protests must be allowed and state supported violence carried out by ICE or local cops must cease. Cops and ICE escalate violence, they never stop it. They are the cause not the solution. Make sure you are on the right side of history. Denounce these tactics and work to protect all folks living in Washington state, especially our at-risk immigrant population and the folks utilizing their first amendment rights.
