Prediction Markets Are Insider Trading Machines. Pass Federal Regulations Now.

To: Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine, Rep. Subramanyam

From: A constituent in Lovettsville, VA

April 2

Dear Members of Congress, On April 2, 2026, the Trump administration filed lawsuits against Illinois, Connecticut, and Arizona for attempting to regulate prediction market companies Kalshi and Polymarket under state gambling laws. Rather than protecting American citizens from an unregulated betting industry that allows people to profit from war, death, and political manipulation, this administration is suing the states trying to do exactly that. We are asking you to act where states have been blocked from acting. Platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket allow people to bet billions of dollars per week on real-world events — including military strikes, elections, the deaths of foreign leaders, and nuclear detonations. After the U.S. launched strikes on Iran, traders made hundreds of thousands of dollars on war outcome markets. No meaningful federal law currently prevents U.S. officials or anyone with access to classified government intelligence from using that inside knowledge to profit. The conflict of interest is impossible to ignore. Donald Trump Jr. is an advisor to both Kalshi and Polymarket — the two dominant prediction market companies. His father’s administration is now suing three states to prevent regulation of the very industry Trump Jr. profits from. This is the same Trump Jr. whose venture capital firm received $670 million in taxpayer funds from his father’s administration. One regulation expert described the industry’s strategy as the “catch me if you can” approach — willing to break laws and bend regulations while building enough political power to make the law bend to them. The Trump administration isn’t catching them. It’s running interference for them. We demand that Congress pass legislation banning U.S. officials and anyone with access to classified information from trading on prediction markets, establish clear federal oversight of these platforms, restore states’ rights to apply consumer protection laws, and investigate the Trump family’s financial ties to this industry. American democracy cannot survive an administration that turns war and suffering into a betting market while suing the states that try to stop it. Respectfully — and with fury,
