Elon Musk’s unauthorized decision to “delete” 18F is wrong and harmful to American citizens. 18F provides valuable services to the American people, helping them better access government through modern technological approaches. People expect this sort of access these days, and it’s far more efficient and effective than the old ways of accessing and engaging. Pretending his access is legal, it’s baffling Elon would even be against this knowing his predilection towards tech solutions to complex problems. One man, who was not elected, with a team of inexperienced young adults who also were not elected, being able to unilaterally decide against Congress and the American people’s’ decisions is unconscionable. Do they even have security clearance?! These moves must be rolled back immediately. Tax time is approaching, and file direct is a massive cost and time saver for many Americans. Without it they must operate at the whims of private companies who have lobbied themselves into a middle man position who Americans must now pay to do their legal obligations to the government. This is wrong as well, and is yet another reason 18F should be reinstated, and these programs should be protected from further tampering.
